Nik Carter  

The Host of Off The Record, Nik Carter was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and began his media career at WBZ, TV4. At the age of 14 Nik hosted various children’s television programs including both the “changing places” and “City show” series. While studying theatre/dramatic arts at New York University, Circle in the square theater school, and the Lee Strasburg institute Nik began his radio career at WNYU, FM in New York City. After graduation he auditioned for many film and TV roles and managed to land a few but alas almost always ended up on the cutting room floor.

Nik Carter moved back to Boston and his commercial radio career began at influential alternative rock station WFNX-FM where he worked for 7 years. After a brief stint doing mornings at WDGE- FM “the Edge” in Providence, Rhode Island he landed back in Boston at WBCN-FM. He replaced Howard Stern in the evenings when the station moved Howard to morning drive. Fourteen months later he moved to Afternoon drive and less than one year later in 1998 Nik Carter won the BILLBOARD magazine award for Major Market Modern Rock Radio Personality of the Year, he has also been nominated for the same award from the industry trade publication RADIO AND RECORDS for several years in a row. Before leaving Boston, he spent several years hosting “the Movie loft” for Boston’s UPN TV 38.

Throughout his career Nik Carter has done much work as a voice actor or voice over announcer for everything from commercials that have run nationally throughout the country, to narrations for museum installations. In 2005 Nik Carter relocated to New York City signing with the prestigious Abrams artists agency to further his radio and voice over career by in the media capitol of the world. In 2005 started working at 92.3 Krock The Rock of New York. As an on-air personality, remaining there through the format change to talk formatted “free FM’ Where he worked as a fill in talk host and full-time music personality.

When Free Fm flipped back to the alternative rock formatted “Krock” Nik returned to the air full time as afternoon drive host. One week after the station changed format to Top 40 in 2009 Nik was announced as the new afternoon drive host for Emmis communications AAA/alternative rock station 101.9 WRXP New York. After a year of nearly tripling the station’s afternoon drive ratings and doubling the commercial spot rate, at the end of his contract Nik left WRXP to return to the world of freelance voice acting, deciding to give radio a rest until the right position came along that would allow him to utilize his unique delivery on-air, while harnessing his abilities as one of the more unique interviewers around.

As a seasoned radio and tv personality, Nik’s personable style, warmth, and knowledge of current music news not only captivates his audience but those he interviews alike.
